The Sundsvall
The Sundsvall asks for very little floor — 60 by 46 inches, about the size of a large closet — and gives back a real Finnish sauna. It's made for two: a couple's evening ritual, or one person who wants a quiet stretch of time at the end of the day. A spare room, a basement corner or a covered patio is all it needs.
The heat is the classic kind. A 6 kW electric stove with built-in controls warms the stones and brings the room to 170–185°F. Ladle a little water over the hot stones and a soft wave of steam fills the small room — löyly, the moment the Finns wait for. The sandglass, bucket and scoop come with it.
The front is all glass — a clear door with a fixed glass panel beside it — so even this compact room feels light. Look up and the ceiling glows with color-changing stars; a light shines softly behind the backrest, and your music plays over Bluetooth through the built-in speakers. Two people, warm cedar, nowhere to be.
Inside it's Canadian red cedar; outside, clear Pacific cedar with a clear finish. Wipe the interior with plain water and a soft cloth, and if it lives under a patio roof, reseal the exterior wood once or twice a year. The stove needs its own 240V circuit from a licensed electrician; lights and sound use a regular 120V outlet.
