The Engelberg
The Engelberg seats up to six on a footprint of just 61 by 70 inches, and it's made entirely of clear Pacific cedar. It's a sauna for a household that likes company — the whole family after a long day outside, or friends on a winter evening — and it fits indoors or under a covered patio.
The heat is classic Finnish. An 8 kW electric stove with built-in controls warms the stones and brings the room to 170–185°F. Ladle water over the hot stones and a soft wave of steam rolls through the room — löyly, best shared. The sandglass, bucket and scoop come with it.
Choose a color for the chromotherapy light or switch it to the red light setting, let the backrest light glow, and put your music on over Bluetooth through the built-in speakers. Behind the clear glass door, the cedar warms, the talk gets slower, and the day slips away round by round.
Care is simple: plain water and a soft cloth inside, and if it stands under a patio roof, a fresh coat of sealant on the exterior wood once or twice a year. The stove needs its own 240V circuit from a licensed electrician; lights and sound use a regular 120V outlet.
